Furniture referred to as "Antique & Vintage" has been at the core of our business since day one! We have matured through many degrees of quality and condition to arrive where we are today. Our philosophy is to care about that moment when you introduce your purchase to someone important. We know that if that experience goes well...everybody wins!
Antique Furniture
This desk was made in the Hepplewhite style with characteristic symmetrical lines accented with pin stripe inlays. The term "Tambour" refers to the two sliding doors in the upper storage section which were made from strips of mahogany glued to a canvas backing allowing them to "roll" away to the interior.
The hand cut dovetail joinery, chamfered drawer bottoms and hand planned-to-dimension stock.
The natural shrinking of the veneers and solid woods are a true sign of age that only time can reveal. This drawer face is made with a crotch mahogany veneer over a solid pine. The pin stripe is intricately, hand made of beechwood, ebony and pecan.
Vintage Furniture
Custom, Full Bonnet, High Boy, c1920's
This is a tremendous piece of "Vintage" furniture. Made with select, solid mahogany and a mix of state-of-the-art machine technology and old world, hand carving. This piece was custom made for a client in the Boston area, as was often the tradition for the burgeoning upper middle class of the day.
Reproducing the full bonnet top was reserved for the few as it added far more cost. The use of a mix of hand and machine techniques is exemplified here along with the use of veneers and solid woods. The use of a machine lathe for the corner columns and flame finials in close proximity to the very detailed, hand carved drawer face with a floral motif shows the talent and strength of the design and subsequent value.
